Women In The Outdoors Update 2022

The WITO Program for 2022 included a Spring turkey hunt. Women who had never been turkey hunting got exposure by going out in the field with a mentor.

There were 16 women initially signed up for the event, but due to various circumstances, participation declined. There were four birds harvested for this year’s hunt. Two of the mentees chose archery. Thanks go out to Struttin’ Blackbeards for sponsoring the event.

We are planning some upcoming events for 2023, such as foraging in the woods for wild mushrooms, berries, asparagus, and rice (to name a few.) We are also researching purse bingo, and are in the process of partnering with a local shooting area to host a women’s event to include shotgun, archery, pistol and sporting clays (to name a few of the activities).

We are always looking for ideas and volunteers to help. I personally invite you to contact me if you have an interest in learning new outdoor skills, have an outdoor skill you can help out as a mentor, or want to have fun getting together with a group and helping out as a volunteer. As they say, “Many hands make light work!” Bonuses and benefits include the opportunity to learn something new, help with conservation and preservation of our great land, and meet new people. We are looking forward to reaching more people and expanding our program.
